The main mission of the Kilian Jornet Foundation is the preservation of mountains and their environment.
The Project
The Kilian Jornet Foundation will restore mountain trails, shepherd shelters and mountain refuges in the Catalan Pyrenees monitoring threatened alpine wildlife and engaging over 600 people through volunteering, school visits and trail-running events.
The Issue
Rapidly increasing numbers of hikers, trail runners, mountain bikers and winter sports visitors are eroding trails and disturbing fragile alpine habitat across 16,097 protected hectares.
The Project
Over three years, the project will restore 15km of mountain trails, rehabilitate two shepherd shelters and two mountain refuges, and track rock ptarmigan and alpine birds, alongside volunteer days, school visits and “Running Minds” trail runs.
The Impact
By 2030, the project aims to engage over 600 people directly and reach 20,000 more digitally, building long-term stewardship of the Pyrenean mountains.
