Founded in 2019, Black Girls Hike provides a safe space for Black women to explore the outdoors. Challenging the status quo, and encouraging Black women to reconnect with nature, the organisation hosts nationwide group hikes, outdoor activity days, and training events.
The Project
Black Girls Hike will establish its Pathway model in one UK region, creating opportunities for Black women and girls to access the outdoors, develop volunteer skills and build a local community through walks and outdoor activities.
The Issue
Black women remain underrepresented in outdoor activities and face barriers to accessing nature, including discrimination and exclusion. Black Girls Hike creates welcoming, culturally informed spaces that encourage participation, build confidence and foster a sense of belonging in the outdoors.
The Project
The project will establish a dedicated Regional Coordinator in one UK region to develop local partnerships, recruit and support volunteers, and deliver a programme of accessible walks, wellbeing and community activities.
The Impact
The project will increase opportunities for Black women and girls to participate in outdoor activities, strengthen local volunteer capacity and establish the foundations for a sustainable regional BGH community.
