Harbour Rowing Club’s mission is to get more local people out on the water. It uses rowing as the tool to promote health and wellbeing. Building fitness, strength and cardio-vascular health, rowing is a shared activity, demanding teamwork, interaction and resilience and connecting members to their Cornish heritage, promoting pride in our environment.
The Project
Harbour Rowing Club is a new gig-rowing club in Boscastle, and needs a lightweight set of oars so under-16s and rowers over 60 can safely take part in gig rowing.
The Issue
Harbour Rowing Club’s existing oars are too heavy for younger and older rowers to handle safely, closing off the sport to exactly the age groups the club most wants to reach.
The Project
The grant will fund a second-hand set of six lightweight gig rowing oars, opening up regular sessions to under-18s, over-60s and people referred via social prescribing.
The Impact
The club expects to double its junior (12–18) and senior (60+) membership and ad hoc school sessions by summer 2027, building on a prior equipment grant that already doubled junior participation.
