For over 30 years, En Passant Par La Montagne has been committed to fostering a mountain environment that is open, inclusive, educational, and meaningful, using the mountains as a powerful tool for inclusion. Striving to make them accessible to those who are vulnerable, feel excluded, or need a fresh start, amidst the peaks and trails, people are brought together, push their own boundaries, and rebuild their lives, finding a new sense of momentum and renewed self-confidence.
The Project
This 30-year-old French mountain association will guide 20 vulnerable young people through a six-month mountain-based mentoring programme building confidence, skills and pathways into training or employment.
The Issue
Vulnerable young people aged 15-25 in Haute-Savoie’s disadvantaged communities face economic, social and cultural barriers that shut them out of mountain environments and the opportunities they offer.
The Project
Passerelles d’Avenir combines outdoor mountain activities, introductions to mountain and outdoor professions, and one-to-one mentoring over a structured six-month pathway with at least 12 mountain days and 20 mentors.
The Impact
At least 60% of the 20 young people involved are expected to progress into education, training or employment while increasing their regular participation in outdoor sport.
