Yoga and Sport with Refugees aims to make a positive impact on people’s lives, bringing people together through sport, and fostering hope. Using sport as a means to break ethnic and religious barriers, YSR aims to create a safe meeting space for cooperation between cultures, where everyone participates and becomes a family.
The Project
Yoga and Sport with Refugees will provide free climbing classes, equipment and transport for young refugees and local youth on Lesvos, addressing cost and access barriers identified directly by participants.
The Issue
A participant survey found that 80% of young refugees and local youth on Lesvos see cost as a barrier to outdoor climbing, with 80% also citing transport challenges and half lacking access to equipment.
The Project
The project will deliver 96 indoor climbing sessions, 12 outdoor climbing classes and two community climbing events, and work with participants to co-create a community-accessible outdoor climbing area.
The Impact
By December 2028, the project aims to engage at least 200 refugee and local young people, with 60% taking part in three or more outdoor climbing activities.
