Established in 2012, Penrith Canoe Club brings people together to learn kayak skills and play canoe polo. The club welcomes beginners and experienced paddlers, with an emphasis on taking part and encouraging each other.
The Project
Penrith Canoe Club needs referee pontoons for its new outdoor canoe polo venue at Greystoke Castle so it can host regional and national league tournaments.
The Issue
Members currently travel to Liverpool and Manchester to play in leagues because Cumbria has no home tournament venue, despite the club producing GB-squad-level players from complete beginners.
The Project
Having already installed a floating pitch, goals and launching pontoon, the club needs referee and safety pontoons to complete a fully modular, tournament-ready venue, with Sport England match funding already doubling any grant received.
The Impact
The venue is expected to be accepted for regional league play from October 2027 and national league play from summer 2027, widening participation in canoe polo across Cumbria, Lancashire and the North West.
