Nepal Forest Fire Management Chapter’s goal is to institutionalise wildland fire management activities for sustainable forest resource management in the country.
The Project
Nepal Forest Fire Management Chapter will train community forest leaders in fire prevention and sustainable ecotourism across five community forest user groups in Lalitpur district.
The Issue
Nepal records thousands of wildfire events annually, and many community forest user groups still lack the technical knowledge and preparedness skills to prevent or respond to them.
The Project
The project will train at least 30 community forest leaders, youth and women representatives in fire-hazard identification, prevention techniques and firebreak maintenance, plus a study visit to a community forest that pairs firebreaks with ecotourism trails.
The Impact
The training is expected to build lasting local capacity for fire preparedness and open a conservation-linked ecotourism income stream for participating communities.
