Access Sport is a national sports inclusion charity formed in 2004, with a vision of a world where no young person is excluded from the life changing benefits of community sport.
The Project
National inclusion charity Access Sport will fund two open water swimming providers to buy adaptive kit and train staff so more disabled and neurodivergent young people can swim safely outdoors.
The Issue
Disabled young people face high costs and inaccessible provision that keep them out of outdoor swimming, with only 3% meeting recommended daily activity levels, and studies suggesting autistic children are up to 160 times more likely to drown than their non-autistic peers.
The Project
The grant funds adaptive equipment (communication cards, sensory support items, basic kit) and disability-inclusion training for two community swimming providers.
The Impact
Access Sport expects to engage 35 disabled and neurodivergent young people directly, with 80% reporting increased confidence in outdoor swimming and recreation.
