Tackling isolation for financial, health or social reasons, Reddish Men In Sheds is a group of (mainly) older men who meet to service and repair unwanted bicycles. Most of the refurbished bikes are then donated to community groups/ schools, bike libraries and food banks to serve populations facing financial or social disadvantage.
The Project
Reddish Men in Sheds, a group of mainly older men tackling isolation through bike repair, will refurbish and donate around 30 more bicycles to schools, food banks and community groups in Greater Manchester.
The Issue
In an area with high rates of inactivity and isolation among older men, Reddish Men in Sheds gives its mostly retired members a meaningful weekly activity while addressing local deprivation and access to cycling.
The Project
The grant will fund parts and repairs to refurbish around 30 donated bicycles, which the group will distribute free to schools, food banks, training schemes and community groups.
The Impact
Building on over 200 bikes already donated, the project is expected to give roughly 180 more people affordable access to cycling for education, employment and healthier, lower-cost travel.
