The Peace of Mind Angling Access Project

Micro Participation
Year Funded 2026
Country United Kingdom
Theme Mental Health, Watersports

Peace of Mind exists to improve mental health, wellbeing and social connection through angling and the therapeutic benefits of the natural environment.
Providing accessible, supportive and inclusive opportunities for members of the policing family, emergency services personnel, veterans, their families and wider communities, participants connect with others, learn new skills, build confidence and improve their physical and emotional wellbeing through participation in angling and outdoor activities.

The Project

Peace of Mind Angling will restore and improve a wellbeing space at Farm Lake, Waltham Abbey, enabling more police officers, emergency service personnel, military veterans, young people and vulnerable individuals to access angling-based mental health and wellbeing support.

The Issue

Many serving and retired police officers, emergency service personnel, veterans and vulnerable members of the community experience stress, trauma, isolation and poor mental wellbeing. The current outdoor learning and wellbeing space at Farm Lake has fallen into disrepair, limiting its ability to safely support the growing number of people seeking access to wellbeing, coaching and peer-support activities.

The Project

Funding will restore and improve the wellbeing space, creating a safe, accessible and welcoming environment where trained volunteer coaches can deliver angling, mentoring, wellbeing and community engagement activities. The improved facility will increase capacity and provide opportunities for more people to access support through the benefits of nature, outdoor activity and social connection.

The Impact

The project will help reduce isolation, improve wellbeing and create stronger support networks for participants. Peace of Mind Angling expects to deliver at least 20 coaching, mentoring and wellbeing sessions annually, increasing participation from disabled, isolated and disadvantaged individuals by at least 30% while providing a sustainable environment for future community wellbeing initiatives.
