Fundacão Tartaruga’s mission is to contribute to sea turtle conservation at its own project sites by cooperating with local communities to create a future where both sea turtles and people can thrive.
The Project
Established sea-turtle conservation foundation, Fundacão Tartaruga, will run its seventh year of free swimming lessons for children in Boa Vista, using organised transport to reach three coastal communities.
The Issue
Children on Boa Vista live beside the ocean but access to formal swimming education is uneven, as distance and lack of transport shut out communities beyond the main town.
The Project
The project provides free, instructor-led swimming lessons for children aged 5-15, with organised transport from Rabil and Estância de Baixo ensuring consistent attendance alongside Sal Rei.
The Impact
Around 100 children are expected to take part regularly across the 2027 season, building confidence, water safety and lasting familiarity with the ocean.
