Spark BC’s mission is to make youth sports accessible by offering welcoming, community-based programmes with no tryouts, no cuts, and no travel required, while reducing financial barriers for families who need support. We serve children and families from all backgrounds, with intentional inclusion of girls, newcomer families, Indigenous youth, children with disabilities or complex needs, and low-income households.
The Project
Spark BC runs two outdoor flag football leagues for 500+ children across the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver, BC, removing every barrier of cost, ability, language or experience so no child is turned away.
The Issue
Organised youth sport in Canada is increasingly priced out of reach, and the region’s high concentration of newcomer and low-income families compounds cost, cultural and language barriers to participation.
The Project
Spark BC’s flag football leagues use subsidised fees, no tryouts and inclusive coaching to remove these barriers for over 500 children aged 4-16 across two full outdoor seasons.
The Impact
The project commits to zero children turned away for inability to pay, disability, inexperience or newcomer status, verified through subsidy ledgers and season rosters.
