Nature Tanzania uses science as a prime source of evidence to influence and drive conservation action in Tanzania. This is achieved through identification, protection, management and monitoring of Key Biodiversity Areas, bringing them together in landscapes and connecting them through the flyways.

The Project

Nature Tanzania will restore 20 hectares of the Amani Nature Forest Reserve degraded by illegal mining, planting 5,000 native tree seedlings and training youth guides to lead nature walks and birdwatching tours.

The Issue

Illegal mining has stripped forest cover from parts of the Amani Nature Forest Reserve, threatening biodiversity including the endangered Long-billed Forest-warbler and disrupting local water resources.

The Project

The project will plant 5,000 native tree seedlings across 20 hectares of mined-out forest gaps, led by the local community, while training youth guides to lead nature walks and birdwatching tours for visitors.

The Impact

This builds on a previous, proven restoration model and aims to secure long-term ecosystem recovery, sustainable forest management and a growing ecotourism offer for the reserve.
