Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire works with community and the best available science to restore resilient, self-sustaining coral reef ecosystems through adaptive approaches, advancing and sharing knowledge to support reef recovery on Bonaire and beyond.
The Project
Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire will propagate around 3,000 critically endangered corals, engaging dive operators, volunteers and visitors in reef stewardship.
The Issue
Coral disease and marine heatwaves have caused significant declines in Bonaire’s reef-building corals, reducing habitat quality for the island’s exceptional marine biodiversity and world-class diving and snorkelling.
The Project
Over 12 months, the project will focus on nursery propagation, growing around 3,000 genetically diverse Acropora corals while continuing volunteer training and community engagement.
The Impact
This will build the coral stock and stewardship capacity that underpins Bonaire’s long-term reef restoration efforts.
